As you know, My Son Sanctuary is located in Duy Phu commune, Duy Xuyen district, Quang Nam province, about 70 km southwest of Da Nang city, about 40km from Hoi An city. My Son Sanctuary is located in a closed valley with a majestic mountain topography.
With more than 70 temples and towers of the Champa civilization crystallized in the enduring material relics, containing historical, cultural, architectural, and artistic values created a long time during the 9 centuries (from the 4th century to the 13th century), it was evaluated on par with the famous monuments in Southeast Asia such as Angkor, Pagan, Borobudur.
Hoi An Ancient Town is one of the most beautiful destinations in Vietnam. A UNESCO World Heritage Site with over 2000 years of history. Since ancient times, Hoi An used to be an important strategic place of the Kingdom of Champa with many trading and trading activities of spices.
In the 16th and 17th centuries, Hoi An was raised to an important international seaport, from which there were more impacts from the surrounding areas although still largely influenced by the Champa culture, and later it was Chinese. With winding streets opening up ancient rows of houses on both sides, Hoi An Ancient Town is truly a great place to take in the scenery.
HOI AN CITY TOUR AND MY SON SANCTUARY
At 8:00 am, our driver and tour guide will pick you up at your hotel in Da Nang city and we start Hoi An city tour and My Son sanctuary. Around 9:00 am, we arrive in My Son Holy Land- the worshiping area of the Champa Kingdom from the 4th-13th centuries. Our local guide will tell you the history of the Champa Kingdom through interesting stories.
After that, we will have a chance to enjoy the Apsara dance at the My Son Sanctuary theater. According to Hindu legend, this dance is a passionate dance danced by beautiful Apsara fairies to serve the gods, with slow movements but very gentle, elegant, and graceful.
The Apsara fairies are the wives of the Gandharva musicians in the heavenly realms tasked with dancing and singing for the gods, they are also the maidservants of Indra – king of the Indian gods. The dance performance is at 14:00 and 15:30 so we will make sure you can get the show.
Then we will walk around this mysterious Hindu complex and pay a visit to the main groups B, C, and D. Our local guide will give you an overall view of the setting of the clusters of Champa towers, and deep knowledge of how they made the bricks (Ancient Champa bricks are very light and it does not keep the water), what kind of mortar they used to stick bricks together (so far, we haven’t known exactly what kind of glue they used to stick bricks together because it seems like there is nothing between them), etc.
Our local guide will show you how they set up the typical cluster of tower temples and the function of each monument, how the priest does the God worshiping rituals. You will have a chance to hunt some beautiful and rare photos during the My Son Sanctuary sunset tour and immerse yourself in the sacred atmosphere of the sanctuary.
Around 12:00, we get to a beautiful riverside restaurant in Hoi An to have lunch, after lunch, we will explore Hoi An Ancient town and learn more about local life here.
Our local guide will take you to explore the Hoi An central market- the biggest market in the ancient town. This is such a great place for us to learn more about local life, culture, and customs and learn how to bargain. Then, we will visit the most beautiful assembly hall of the merchant Chinese, Phuc Kien (Fujian Assembly Hall). This is not only a clubhouse but also the religious beliefs of the Chinese who settle down in Hoi An.
Then, we continue visiting one of the oldest merchant houses of the Japanese, Tan Ky Old House. This is a special house because of the combination of 3 kinds of architecture including Japanese, Chinese, and Vietnamese. Our local guide will tell you more about the function of each part of the house as well as the Fengshui and flood level each year in this Old House.
Last but not least in our Hoi An City Tour and My Son Sanctuary is the Hoi An Japanese Bridge– a special functional bridge made by the Japanese businessmen who settle down here. It is not only a bridge but also a temple on it.
In the middle of this bridge, the ancient Japanese set up an altar to worship the Northern God who brings safety and happiness to the locals. Our guide will tell you more about the Vietnamese culture when you burn the incense to offer our ancestors as well as the god then you can practice by yourself.
