Huyen Khong Son Thuong pagoda Introduction

Huyen Khong Son Thuong Pagoda is a zen pagoda in Hue nestles in a valley amongst the pine hills called Van Tung Mountain. As you know, Huyen Khong Son Thuong is a Theravada pagoda. The zen pagoda Huyền Không Sơn Thượng lies on Cham mountain, Huong Ho commune, Huong Tra district, Thua Thien Hue province.

Direction to get to Huyen Khong Son Thuong Pagoda 

From Thien Mu pagoda, you should go along the riverbank, go pass Hue Temple of literature; go over the Xuoc Du bridge, keep going straight around 1 km, you will get to Dong Cham village. Keep going around 500 m, you will see the cultural village gate, go through the village gate around 200, you will see the sign ” Way to Huyen Khong Son Thuong”. Keep going straight ahead about 3 km more, you will get to the pagoda.

The total area of the pagoda is about 1 hectare and there are 2 sections. The first one is the surrounding and the second one is the main pagoda.

But in 1988, the government approved to extend the pagoda up to 50 hectares to plant trees and to make the beautiful garden. 

Huyen Khong Son Thuong Campus

The surrounding campus of Huyen Khong Son Thuong is an airy space of 30 hectares and is divided into two quite large spaces. 

The Main pagoda 

Including the main shrine, the purple Clouds temple, Nghenh Luong Dinh pavilion, Guest House, the kitchen, the private residence for the monks and some other additional monuments.

The Worshiping shrine

The building material is mainly wood, fish style tiles, following the simple style of Hue’s rural soul, painted folk temple…

The mainstream idea of the pagoda is the harmony with nature, with the soul of poetry and the humanities values, focus on zen and meditation.

The main shrine known as the outer temple worshiping the Buddha Sakyā Muni (Thích-ca Mâu-ni). It is also the meditation room of the monks.  On the columns of the main shrine, there are 3 couples of calligraphy. 

The Purple Clouds Temple

This is the living room, library, zen tea tasting of the pagoda Principal surrounded with 5 yellow small bamboo trees.  So the Purple Clouds Temple get along fine with the main shrine, airy space as well as friendly with nature. Surrounded are the small lakes, all kinds of flowers, bonsais and the colourful orchids.

Nghenh Luong Dinh Pavillion

This is the place where visitors can learn how to write calligraphy, drawing paintings, sightseeing as well as get good moods to compose poems.

The Guest House

The guest house is made of wood and friendly with environments. This is the place for visitors who have important work with pagoda can overnight.

The garden

The garden has 5 beautiful lakes called The Five Lakes full of lotus and water lily flowers. There are some poetic small bridges across the lakes.
