The History of Tu Hieu Pagoda
according to history, the Tu Hieu Pagoda was just a small shrine namely Thao Am built by the monk Nhat Dinh. He lived with his elderly mother. When his mother got sick, the doctor said that she needs some fish and meat to have enough nutrition so she could recover. Unhesitated he went to the market to buy some fish to cook the soup for his mom. He was a Buddhist monk so he got a lot of bad fame about killing animals. But the emperor Tu Duc- the 4th emperor of the Nguyen dynasty also a very dutiful son who heard about this story. Appreciate and admire his sacrifice and duty, he built the pagoda and named it Tu Hieu Pagoda ” Dutiful Son Pagoda”.
The eunuchs under the Nguyen dynasty regularly visited and donated money to work on remodeling and expanding the pagoda with a desire to have a peaceful burial area at the Buddha’s land. So Tu Hieu Pagoda Hue is the only pagoda in Vietnam that has the burial area of the Nguyen Dynasty eunuchs.

Located in Duong Xuan Village, Thuy Xuan commune, Hue City on a hill surrounded by green pine forest. Tu Hieu Pagoda is just about 5 km from Hue city center.
